Sponsored Sonoma Welcoming
Cynthia is a conscientious working mom raising her young son on her own. She works as a cook at a private school - a job she loves.
When her partner didn't pay his share of the rent they lost their apartment. Additionally, he had become abusive, so Cynthia left him to protect herself and her son. The two of them lived in shelters and rented rooms; at one point they even had to live in her car.
Cynthia had managed to continue working through all this insecurity. Her priority has always been to provide for her son.
Additionally, Cynthia is estranged from her family. Yet, as a result of her positive attitude, she believes that all that she's been through has made her stronger mentally and spiritually.
When facing life's challenges, she draws strength from advice that her grandmother once gave her, "The Creator gives his strongest warriors the strongest battles.”
Cynthia and her son were referred to us by Catholic Charities of Santa Rosa.
BEFORE

Return
Cynthia joyfully expressed her gratitude for the donations from our generous donors, and the hard work by the Welcoming Home volunteers.
Picking up one of the pillows on her 'new' sofa, she exclaimed "Oh... I love these pillows; they're exactly what I would’ve picked out!"
When her son immediately sunk into his new beanbag chair, mom responded happily "He's always wanted a beanbag chair!"
As a cook, she really appreciated the kitchen items. Seeing a covered casserole dish, she picked it up, smiled and said "I love this." Then, when she saw the pewter platter she pulled it from the shelf, held it high and said "Oh! I've wanted one of these."
It was obvious how happy and appreciative Cynthia and her son were.

This Welcome Home event was sponsored by a generous family who wish to remain anonymous.
About Sponsored Welcomings
"Sponsorship" means paying for the brand new mattresses, box springs and frames; the cost of the movers; the Starter Kit of necessary items that the individual or family needs in the short term, and any needed items that aren't donated. To enable us to help more people, we need more organizations, groups of friends, schools, etc. to sponsor Welcomings.
