Anonymous Couple Sponsors Formerly Homeless Family

On July 25, a Santa Rosa couple who wish to remain anonymous once again generously sponsored the furnishing of an empty home of a formerly homeless family. Welcoming Home and the family are so grateful for their ongoing generosity.

Karen had been on a successful career path, working for about nine years at The Adventist Heart Institute in St. Helena. Starting off as a front desk receptionist, she worked her way up to working in the OR as an anesthesia tech, an MA surgery scheduler for cardio thoracic surgeons, and other specialists; eventually she became the clinic coordinator for the Structural Heart Program.

The sudden death of her boyfriend sent her spiraling in a downward path, leading to estrangement from loved ones, homelessness, and ultimately, the loss of her job. She eventually entered another committed relationship and became pregnant; unfortunately that relationship did not last. She and the child's father are still in contact; he is a committed father and is helping her as best he can.

The Living Room took Karen in when she was eight months pregnant, giving her temporary emergency shelter and helping her get back on her feet with her newborn son, providing many essential items for the boy.

Giving birth has motivated her to get the help she needs to live a productive, healthy life. When we met Karen, she was clearly thrilled to be a new mother and excited about her new apartment; she told us that she wants to provide a good home for her son and that she feels she is on the right track now.

Return Home

There were tears of joy when Karen saw her "new" home. She couldn’t believe her eyes, saying,"It doesn’t look like my apartment."

"Thank  you all. I love it! I am speechless. This is amazing,” she exclaimed over and over again.

About Sponsored Welcomings

"Sponsorship" means paying for the brand new mattresses, box springs and frames; the cost of the movers; the Starter Kit of necessary items that the individual or family needs in the short term, and any needed items that aren't donated. To enable us to help more people, we need more organizations, groups of friends, schools, etc. to sponsor Welcomings.
