Tamonte admits to having gotten in with a rough crowd as a young adult. He lived in a crime-ridden part of the city. At one point, he was shot in the leg, leaving him permanently scarred and with muscle damage. He moved in with his sister in what turned out to be an equally unsafe neighborhood. Her home was ransacked, leaving both of them without their possessions. Intent on changing his life, Tamonte moved out of the city into a one-bedroom apartment. By then, he was a single Dad with three children. The apartment didn’t have nearly enough room for the four of them. Through the help of Homeward Bound of Marin, Tamonte and his family (two boys, aged 8 and 13; and a 2 ½ year old girl) were able to find a two-bedroom apartment in a quiet neighborhood. Now there’s room for each to have his/her own bed, plus room to play and do homework. Tamonte is thrilled to be living far away from the neighborhoods he grew up in and is focused on making sure his kids are safe and happy. He is planning to go to college to study forensics or social work.
