Karen had been on a successful career path, working for about 9 years at The Adventist Heart Institute in St. Helena. Starting off as a front desk receptionist, she worked her way up to working in the OR as an anesthesia tech, an MA surgery scheduler for cardio thoracic surgeons, and other specialists, and eventually became the clinic coordinator for the Structural Heart Program.
The sudden death of her boyfriend at the time sent her spiraling in a downward path, leading to estrangement from loved ones and homelessness and the loss of her job. She eventually entered another coimmitted relationship and became pregnant, only to see that relationship dissolve. She and the child’s father are still in contact; he is a committed father and is helping her as best he can.
The Living Room took her in when she was 8 months pregnant, giving her temporary emergency shelter and helping her get back on her feet with her newborn son, providing many essential items for the boy.
Karen is thrilled to be a new mother and excited about her new apartment and providing a good home for her son. She feels she is on the right track now. Giving birth has motivated her to get the help she needs to live a good and healthy life.
