Community Leader Fighting Homelessness Sponsors  "Welcoming" in Memory of her Son

On May 17th, Marion Weinreb, a board member of The Living Room and Homeward Bound, generously sponsored the furnishing of a new apartment for a formerly homeless family. The sponsorship was made in memory of her son, Max Jackson Weinreb.

The family, Mary and her two children (a teenage son and a pre-teen daughter,) fled an abusive relationship in search of safety and a fresh start.

Mary had been pursuing a Bachelor’s degree but when the urgency of their situation became clear she made the difficult decision to leave school and focus on protecting and providing for her children. She now works full-time for a local nonprofit that supports people in need, channeling her compassion and resilience into helping others.

Today, Mary has a stable job and the children are overjoyed to finally have a home of their own with separate bedrooms for the first time in their lives.

The family loves creating art together and are excited to decorate their new space with their own work.

More than anything, they’re grateful for the chance to feel safe, to find peace, and to begin building a joyful future together.

In addition to all the happy tears, there were joyful exclamations as well: “Oh my gosh, I love it! It’s exactly what I would have wanted. It’s so cool—and it’s just ours. Thank you so much!”

About Sponsored Welcomings

"Sponsorship" means paying for the brand new mattresses, box springs and frames; the cost of the movers; the Starter Kit of necessary items that the individual or family needs in the short term, and any needed items that aren't donated. To enable us to help more people, we need more organizations, groups of friends, schools, etc. to sponsor Welcomings.
