A Teen’s Community Spirit Turns an Apartment into a Home
Bradley was referred to us by Marin Housing Authority, and through the fabulous efforts of Marin teen Grace D., her family and friends, we were able to furnish his new apartment.
Like so many of the individuals Welcoming Home serves, Bradley has faced significant challenges on his journey to stability. He considers himself fortunate to have lived in Marin County for several years and has worked hard to build and maintain stability in his life.
Now, for the first time, he has space for a dedicated home office. He manages paperwork for a local small business and is excited at the prospect of finally having a proper desk and filing cabinet, making it easier to stay organized and work more efficiently from home.
This new apartment offers Bradley far more than additional space. It represents an opportunity to enhance his quality of life, continue building on the stability he has worked so hard to achieve, and create a home that reflects his personality while supporting his independence.
We are immensely grateful to Grace D. What a touching embodiment of community spirit she is.

BEFORE

Return
“Awesome!” was the word Bradley repeated over and over as he explored his newly furnished apartment. He took his time looking at each room, carefully noting every new piece of furniture. He clearly appreciated all that had been done to make his new home feel comfortable and complete.
Bradley was especially excited about his new home office. Having a dedicated space where he could work in an organized manner was something he had been looking forward to; he was thrilled to finally have a desk and a place to keep everything he needs for his work.
Even the little touches made a big difference: Bradley was really happy to finally have a curtain for the bathroom window so he could leave the window open for fresh air while still having privacy.
And then there was the recliner. When Bradley discovered that one of his new living room chairs reclined, he sat down, put his feet up, leaned back, and said, “Awesome” one more time.
Perhaps the most heartwarming part of the day was seeing how grateful Bradley was for the volunteers and donors who helped turn his apartment into a home. He was especially thankful for the generosity of Grace D., whose sponsorship made this Welcoming possible.
His repeated expressions of thanks and warm smile said it all.

About Sponsored Welcomings
"Sponsorship" means paying for the brand new mattresses, box springs and frames; the cost of the movers; the Starter Kit of necessary items that the individual or family needs in the short term, and any needed items that aren't donated. To enable us to help more people, we need more organizations, groups of friends, schools, etc. to sponsor Welcomings.
