Sponsored Marin Welcoming

Marianna was referred to us by Adopt a Family. She is a single mother of four children, all under the age of 11. Several years ago, while living with her partner in her native country, she took in a young man with developmental challenges who had been living on the streets, abandoned by his family. He is still part of Marianna’s household today, helping with childcare and daily tasks.

Until recently, the six of them were living in a small studio in the South Bay, where Marianna supported the family by delivering Instacart orders whenever she could. Thinking that it would make it easier on the family, her sister invited them to move in with her in Marin County. Unfortunately, the arrangement didn’t work out; Marianna and her family had to leave.

They spent a period of time living in their car, followed by a stay in a motel. Fortunately, Adopt a Family stepped in, helping Marianna access food resources and secure an apartment. While she had managed to gather a few basic furniture items - such as used mattresses and an old sofa - the family had very few other household necessities, eating from plastic plates with just a few utensils.

Marianna is deeply grateful to a generous anonymous sponsor who provided a starter kit of essentials right after our initial visit and then further supported the family by covering the cost of brand-new beds, moving services and the funding of critical items that were not donated.

About Sponsored Welcomings

"Sponsorship" means paying for the brand new mattresses, box springs and frames; the cost of the movers; the Starter Kit of necessary items that the individual or family needs in the short term, and any needed items that aren't donated. To enable us to help more people, we need more organizations, groups of friends, schools, etc. to sponsor Welcomings.
