Sponsored Welcoming
This Welcoming was sponsored by a generous Santa Rosa couple who wish to remain anonymous.
Matthew was referred to us by Catholic Charities of Santa Rosa. After he and his children's mother parted, he lost his job and became separated from family. To make matters worse, he was then injured and in the hospital for 6-7 months. It was during this time that he became homeless. Matthew is legally blind and was being housed and supported by Catholic Charities. His 10-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son moved around quite a bit during that time, but Matthew is now their primary parent. They were all incredibly relieved to be getting their new apartment. It had originally been promised to them in early December but the new construction ran into delays and they were not able to move in until February. The wait had been extremely hard on the kids to say the least. Alicia loves anything Hello Kitty and Gideon loves gaming and football. When we first visited them, they couldn't wait to have their very own private bedrooms!

Return Home
When they returned, the family was surprised at what they saw. The kids walked Matthew through the newly placed furniture in the apartment so he could get used to the new layout of their home. A quiet man, he said, "I didn't know you were going to make it look this nice." Fifteen-year-old Gideon wanted to know "How did you do all this in three hours?" The family walked from room to room with wide smiles. When we said good bye, each of them hugged each of us. "This has been a long time in coming," Matthew said. "And I really appreciate it."

About Sponsored Welcomings
"Sponsorship" means paying for the brand new mattresses, box springs and frames; the cost of the movers; the Starter Kit of necessary items that the individual or family needs in the short term, and any needed items that aren't donated. To enable us to help more people, we need more organizations, groups of friends, schools, etc. to sponsor Welcomings.
