An Anonymous Sponsor Gives a Family a "New" Home
Elisa, her husband and two boys (aged 14 and 10) were living in a small apartment. The landlord decided to remodel and asked them to leave. The family couldn’t afford storage space for their things while they tried to find another home, so they had to give up all their belongings.
In the meantime, both Elisa and her husband’s work dried up due to COVID; she is a housecleaner - currently looking for additional jobs. He is in construction, also looking for work.
Until just recently, they were all staying in one empty room of an apartment, sleeping on the floor, until North Marin Community Services helped them find a new place to live. They were so happy to finally have a small apartment with a roof over their heads but they had no furniture at all and were sleeping on the floor.
At the same time that this family was referred to us for help, a generous individual contacted us, wishing to sponsor a Welcoming. What resulted was a lovely, furnished apartment for the family. The boys received bedding and art featuring their favorite characters and Mom got the red comforter she wished for.
Thank to this generous donor, we were able to give one of the boys a bike and the other, a budding baker, a Cuisineart food processor and cooking supplies.
Reaction
When the family arrived home, they were speechless. Mom looked around with tears in her eyes, like she couldn't believe this was really theirs. The oldest boy settled into the comfy armchair like he would stay there forever. The Mom hugged our Lead Volunteer, Allison. And you can see how the youngest boy loved his new wheels.
