Lindsey's Home
On August 24, Welcoming Home furnished the home of Lindsey and her two daughters. They had fled domestic violence, only to have a hazardous mold infestation in their next temporary landing spot. Lindsey is disabled, unable to stand on her feet for very long.
For the last few months, they've been couch-surfing when they could—and when they couldn't, they've slept in the car. The family was finally able to move into an apartment a couple of months ago but had no furniture, except for one new bed and one used mattress.
Even though we had just completed four furnishings in Marin and another four in Sonoma County, when we heard their story, we just couldn't turn them down. A very generous donor provided about half of the furniture for the apartment and a number of Marin residents selling items on Facebook Marketplace, CraigsList and NextDoor donated their items for sale when they heard Lindsey's story.
We are so grateful all the donors who chipped in to make this spur of the moment "Welcoming" happen.
The family was so happy- and very touched- when they saw their “new” home, complete with a cat palace for a "very important family member."
Lindsey was overwhelmed and broke down in tears; she has been through so much and now, at last, things are turning around.
She wrote to us the next day …“I want to thank you all for all that you’ve done for us. We are truly happy and so thankful. It really feels like home to us and we are so forever grateful for everything. Thank you so much.”
